Notes from SLCC Zoom Meeting Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2024 Kevin, Hosting, In Attendance: Kevin, Robbie, Bob, Don, Richard, Scott Robbie told Kevin he's using another Laptop(a huge Toshiba Qosmio) to test it for the Meetings. Richard shows an 8 pin and USB C, connector, for power, for Atari 600, 800 XL and XE computers, and one for Apple 2C computers, for $15.00. Richard poses an electronics question about a capacitor-" does the polarization matter-are tantalums polarized?" There was discussion about capacitors. Richard's buying everything from DigiKey. Robbie's bringing an Atari mouse to the next In-Person Meeting. Kevin asked Richard about his Pico Card cartridge, and Richard will make 4 more cartridges and even mail them to Club members. Kevin has a yellowed keyboard with an XEGS Atari Game System...1/2 the keys work. Another one of his keyboards has keys that are fine. Bad trace? Scott had to repair traces on an XE keyboard. He ordered new Mylar. He cleaned the connector, but still had issues. He painted the traces, but did not succeed. Don has no problem with the weather in Florida, just another hot day. Fired up "Doom" on his Jaguar emulator and played 3 levels before he died. Mapping keys doesn't always work. Won't play "Alien vs. Predator", it's too scary! The elevator on the emulator is tricky. Works great on the Jaguar. Bob's re-doing his laboratory, moving everything to the barn. He needs 4 systems, a logic analyzer, scope, programs, 3 printers, all take up room. He got a color TV for free, with a bad CRT. He converted a black and white TV to color. Kevin showed some old console TV's on the Internet. Asked about fires in his area, Bob said it was 15 miles away and no problem because the wind was blowing the other way. There were lots of earthquakes in L.A., Richard felt them in his car at Home Depot, long amount of wiggling. Bob says they even have earthquakes in Florida. Richard got the loot from VCF West home, o.k. Kevin showed "Qbert", running from Richard's cartridge. Scott missed out on Kohl's sale of Game Station Pros, but there's an "Open Box" on eBay for $31.99. Kevin finds Ultima II on eBay Richard finds Windows 1 in a beat up box. Robbie mentions the conjunction of Mars and Jupiter in the morning sky. Kevin tells of how the ancients traced the path of Venus over 4 years and formed a six pointed star. Robbie say,"Mazeltov!" It's the Star of David. Scott asks,"which planet traces a Fuji?" The subject of the first use of CGI in a movie comes up with, "The Last Starfighter" mentioned. Spielberg might remake it. "Bambi Meets Godzilla" was discussed. Richard has been fixing stuff he got at VCF West, like an Apple 2GS, to hook up floppy drives, but DB 19 connectors are expensive. Some Macs use 19" cables. His IBM 5155 Portable is the cleanest computer he ever got. Says it must not have been used much. Scott was camping in Pennsylvania at the 51st. Pennsic War, beating on people, but just had bruises. All survived. It's held at a big campground on Coopers Lake. He was asked if his wife ever gets out there with armor, and his answer was,"not this year, but last year." They're having hot weather in Texas...it's been in the 80's in Livermore, Kevin says. Richard showed a clean keybord of the IBM computer he got, and Scott wondered why they have a large,"+" key?
